The lake you see in this image is called Spiegelsee. Translated literally you would call it mirror lake but without us photographers this lake would still be called mittlerer Gasslsee (which I don’t want to translate now). Looking at my image you may ask “where is the mirror” and why do photographers rename a lake?
The problem with my image is the wind. The wind was too strong and caused many waves on the water. Because of this you can’t see the “mirror” but when the wind is calm, the beautiful view with the big Dachstein glacier in the distance is mirrored in the lake.
In the last decades many photographers walked up there because of this unique mirror effect and that is how the lake got its new name.
